SEED LINKS

Here are a few useful links that we have found over the past few months as we try and find the best deals, range of seeds and seed potatoes. We haven't included the regular suppliers because they're obvious. These are a few of the more obscure sites with an interesting range of items. Have a look at these:

Colchester Avenue Allotments Association

http://www.caaa.org.uk

Colchester Avenue's very own website as created by our plot neighbour Roger Gilbert. Gives you all the latest news on our site as a whole including the latest newsletters, contact information for the site and anything else you need to know.

Stephen Partridge's Allotment Blog

http://www.myallotments.blogspot.com

This is a great example of an allotment as it should be (the quality of which we aspire to achieve). Great plots and good advice, epecially the video about leeks.

Moles Seeds – Bulk Supplier of Seeds

http://www.molesseeds.co.uk

Moles were recommended to us by Nigel from our neighbouring plot. After receiving a catalogue with their extensive range of vegetable seeds, we ordered 50g of Sweetcorn seeds for around £4 (including postage), which amounted to around 600 seeds. Whoops! Really cheap and really good value for money. Highly recommended as they also sell fruit bushes, asparus crowns and flower seeds too.

Lucy and Anthony Carrol's Heritage Potatoes

http://www.heritage-potatoes.co.uk/potatoes.htm

Fantastic range of seed potatoes. Fancy a change from the good old Desirees and Maris Pipers? How about a potato that's blue inside and out? Or how about a spud which is red in the centre? French varieties, heirloom varieties... this site has a great variety of potatoes at good prices

Seeds-By-Size

http://www.seeds-by-size.co.uk/

A very simple-looking site which entails having to work out which seeds come under which category and then ordering them by weight. This site has some really obscure varieties of vegetable seeds. I never knew there were so many varieties of tomatoes and all the colours of the rainbow! This is where I got Black Krim tomato seeds from. Also stocks Tomarillos, peppers, peas, aubergines. A really great site if you want something different or from around the world.

Nicky's Nursery

http://www.nickys-nursery.co.uk/

A lovely little site that caters for so many different gardeners. It has tree seeds, vegetable seeds, flower seeds and even garden games. Cheap supplier of seeds, arriving in sealed waterproof white bags.

The Real Seed Company – Vida Verde

http://www.realseeds.co.uk/

This is where I bought my first tomato and aubergine seeds. Heirloom seeds! Lovely site and lovely service with real care taken with the seeds and instrictions. There's lots of encouragement for you to save your own seeds.

The Garden Superstore

http://www.thegardensuperstore.co.uk/

Brilliant site for cheap pots and propagators. Having always found plant pots to be expensive in shops for so few, it's nice to finally find somewhere where they seel the basic plant pots from 5p a pot!
